Both of them had in the past decade pleaded for more concerted solutions to be applied to the lingering conflicts. The first article, by two researchers of the Centre for European Reform, treats in detail the efforts made by both sides to overcome the structural obstacles that still hinder a more fruitful partnership. Meanwhile, times have changed and new important players have entered onto the world scene—China in particular. The second article, part of an interview with renowned German analyst Frank Sieren, reminds the reader that for a long time already “the West has ceased to impress China”.
