Liang Ping has interviewed three AIDS patients, to hear from them how they have found various ways to reinsert themselves in society: through service to other AIDS patients. By so doing, they have reinvented themselves and helped others in their new life. The second contribution, by He Xi, a freelance writer, is an interview with Chen Danqing, a leading intellectual and painter. The conversation deals not only with Chen Danqing’s own journey through art, but also how people of his generation could continue in the steps of other senior writers and thinkers like Lu Xun or Hu Shih. Undeniably, by their independent spirit, both have left an important legacy.
