Chinese Modern ThoughtAs China is seen by the world to be steadily developing one of the largest economies, particularly in East Asia but globally as well, the cultural as well as ideological context of development on such a large scale has been a frequently debated theoretical topic. The human and social side of this development inspires a critical question - what is the impact of such a development on the traditional cultural and moral values of the Chinese people? The answers to this question lie somewhere in the context of a current cultural disarray in China which is so often stressed by the official Chinese media. It is also confirmed in observing among the people of China a yearning for a renewed understanding of the human being and society. Without ignoring the fact that rapid economic development is the path chosen by China to achieve modernity, the Institute encourages research by Chinese and foreign scholars that contributes to assess the impact of such a development on the cultural and ethical traditions of China. |
