Macau Ricci Institute Studies series

Established in Macau at the time of its hand-over to direct Chinese administration (1999), the Macau Ricci Institute is a recent foundation of the Jesuits in Macau. Its aim is to continue the process of friendly encounter between Chinese and Western cultures and traditions, which was begun by Matteo Ricci (1552-1610) so many years ago.

Through seminars, symposia, and other cultural events, its members and friends endeavor, in cooperation with scholars from China and overseas, to promote academic research on the intercultural history of Macau and China which leads to a better common understanding.

With these scholars, the Institute is also aware, in present day China, of the rapid economic development of the nation and of the individual and social impact that modernity has had on the country's cultural, artistic, and ethical traditions.

The Macau Ricci Institute Studies series, therefore, intends to offer to its readership the proceedings of seminars, colloquia or conferences which the Institute sponsors and organizes every year and also the results of research undertaken by the Macau Ricci Institute or his partners on various topics related to the Institute's orientations.

The Editorial Committee of the series welcomes scholars to submit for publication research reports, studies or monographs (whether sponsored or conducted by the Institute or not) that are in line with its purposes and orientations.
